Rapunzel
Retold by: Barbara Rogasky
Illustrated by: Trina Schart Hyman
Based off: the Brothers Grimm
A man and wife have waited many years to have a baby, and
their wish was finally coming true. While the wife was pregnant, she craved the
forbidden salad from the witch’s garden. The witch allows the wife to eat the
salad if the couple gives their child to the witch. When the child is born witch
takes her to a faraway tower. A prince comes and they fall in love, and live
happily ever after.
Rating: this is a classic example of folk tale. I like that
it gives real examples of what can happen in life (in far out cases) For
example, love at first sight, or a father doing what he has to do in order to
save his family. I feel that is a good way to bond with children as you are
reading it to them. They can see good and bad in the world. It can also make
reading time more special, especially if the reader liked this story as a
child.
